Say No More by Karen Rose

Say No More, by Karen Rose is the second book in the Eden Cult Trilogy by Karen Rose. This is technically classified as romantic suspense, but Karen Rose's books are more suspense with romance an after thought. As in all of Karen's books, the hero/heroine has survived a traumatic episode, only to have to fight to survive a current one.

I am in the middle of this 631 page book, and I am having a tepid response to the lead. She is a tragic figure, who endured hell from ages 12-13. She grew up in the foster system after that and has had years of help from therapy. She is a success in her field, although in this book she has had a set back and has taken a two month sabbatical. I point all of this out, because despite the therapy and successes, she comes across as hateful, self absorbed and selfish for a good part of the book. Want to start reading it yet?!

There are bright moments, which is why I have continued with it. The Sokolov family reappears, and they are everything you would want in a family!

The official description of the book is:

Mercy Callahan thought she'd escaped the cult decades ago, but its long fingers are reaching out for her again in this electrifying novel in the Sacramento series by New York Times bestselling author Karen Rose.

Seventeen years ago. That was the last time Mercy Callahan saw Ephraim Burton, the leader of the twisted Eden cult where she was raised. But even though she escaped the abuse and terror, they continue to haunt her.

When her brother Gideon discovers new evidence of the cult's--and their victims'--whereabouts, Mercy goes to Sacramento to reconnect with him. There, she meets Gideon's closest friend--homicide detective Rafe Sokolov. From Rafe, she receives an offer she never knew she needed: to track down Ephraim and make him pay for everything.

But Ephraim, who had thought Mercy long dead, discovers she is in fact alive and that she is digging around for the cult's secrets. And now he'll do anything to take her back to Eden--dead or alive.

Trigger Warning: This book contains stories of rape and multiple murders.
