A Miracle...
Boy, kidnapped eight years ago, to be reunited with his mother
Miguel Morin was 8 months old when, police say, his baby sitter took him for what was supposed to be just one night in 2004. The sitter, Krystle Rochelle Tanner, was Miguel’s godmother and friends with his mother, police say.
Now, eight years after his disappearance, Miguel will be reunited with his mother, Auboni Champion-Morin of Houston, pending a DNA test, Click2houston.com reported Wednesday. She says she never gave up hope that she would find her child.
"I prayed every night that he was safe, loved and he would come home one day," Champion-Morin told the Houston television station.
Police investigated the child's disappearance for two years but closed the case in 2006.
Then, last summer, child welfare investigators in San Augustine County, about 150 miles northeast of Houston, got word that Tanner, now 26, and her boyfriend were neglecting two children, the Associated Press reported.
Officials tried to find the older boy, who turned out to be Miguel, but he was nowhere to be found. When Child Protective Services learned that Tanner was suspected in the 2004 kidnapping of an 8-month-old, they arrested her on Monday. One of her relatives led authorities to the boy, the AP reported.
Tanner has been booked into jail, charged with felony kidnapping.
