BARC wants to find cat abuser
A 2-year-old orange tabby cat now goes by the name Cupid after he survived being shot with an arrow that pierced his shoulder blades.
The stray was seen walking around a Houston neighborhood for three days with the arrow sticking out of his body, but no one could catch him.
"It was too hurt. It had the arrow from side to side. It was real bad. It hurt real bad," resident Elizabeth Khan said.
Dr. Amanda Taylor took X-rays and realized the arrow was not piercing anything vital.
"It looked like it could have been through the chest cavity, which would have been catastrophic," said Taylor, "The only thing it really did as far as damage muscle was hit the left shoulder blade."
Taylor performed surgery on Cupid and removed the 18-inch-long arrow.
Cupid is resting at the vet's office and loving on anyone who will show him some attention. His injury is very visible, but doctors say he will make a full recovery.
"This definitely wasn't an accident. An orange cat doesn't look like something you hunt for. Luckily, this kitty is a tough one and came out OK," said Taylor.
Cupid will be at the vet's office for several days, then will go to a foster home before being put up for adoption.
Anyone interested in giving Cupid a new, permanent home can contact Purr Paws. An adoption application can be found on their website at www.purrpawsrescue.org.
Workers at BARC are investigating to find the person who shot the cat.
"We are going to do our best to find out who it was and we know that somebody saw this happen, and we hope they won't tolerate it either," said Christopher Newport with BARC.
"I don't know how people can be so cruel," Khan said. "That was kind of scary."
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
