Thank You For Being A Friend

I was watching old episodes of The Golden Girls tonight, and thought of all of the wonderful memories this show brings to me...

That show reminds me of my young adult years... I was raised in a household of four older women...my mom (the Rose of the group), my grandmother (the Sophia of the group), my Aunt Jenny (the Dorothy of the group), and my Aunt GG (the less sexual Blanche of the group)!

Admittedly, watching this show sometimes reminds me of some of the conversations that went on in my house...and I miss that. So tonight I am feeling a little homesick, wishing my grandmother and mom were still alive today. It is hard to believe I haven't been able to see, hear or touch these two wonderful women in too many years.

My mom, Lee, has now been gone 20 years...and my grandmother has been gone 11 years. These two women were very important in my life, and I miss their humor, my mom's ditziness, my grandmother's strong will, and most of all their hugs.

I am very lucky to have had them in my life for as long as I did, and I am also very lucky to have my Aunt Jenny, who is a surrogate mother to me, and my Aunt GG who is always a go to source on the latest happenings.

After an incredibly stressful week, I could really use a conversation with my grandmother or a hug from my mom. Jenny has been very good with the support and pep talks, and GG is always been good about sending support vibes my way...but times like these make me long for all of my own four golden girls.

So homesickness aside, the theme song of this show has a wonderful message, one that I'd like to share with all of you:

Thank You For Being A Friend lyrics

Thank you for being a friend
Traveled down the road and back again
your heart is true you're a pal and a confidant

I'm not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won't you stand up and take a bow

And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see, the biggest gift would be from me
and the card attached would say,
Thank you for being a friend

Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend
Thank you for being a friend

If it's a car you lack
I'd surely buy you a Cadillac
Whatever you need, anytime of the day or night

I'm not ashamed to say
I hope it always will stay this way
My hat is off, won't you stand up and take a bow

And when we both get older
With walking canes and hair of gray
Have no fear, even though it's hard to hear
I will stand real close and say,
Thank you for being a friend

(I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend
(I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend
(I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend
(I want to thank you)
Let me tell you bout a friend
(I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend
(I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend
(I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend

And when we die and float away
Into the night, the Milky Way
You'll hear me call, as we ascend
I'll see you there, then once again
Thank you for being a friend

Thank you for being a friend
(I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend
(I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend
(I want to thank you)
Thank you for being a friend
Whoa, tell you about a friend
(Thank you right now, for being a friend)
Thank you for being a friend
(I wanna tell you right now, and tell you again)
Thank you for being a friend
(I wanna thank you, thank you, for being a friend)
Thank you for being a friend
